Dorian Nuskind-Oder is a New York City-based artist working in the fields of dance performance, choreography and video. She earned her BFA in Dance (with honors) from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, where she was a National Merit Scholarship recipient. Currently, Dorian is a scholarship student at the Merce Cunningham Studio.

Choreography

Since 2001, Dorian has regularly produced dances with recent New York City presentations at Joyce Soho, Chen Dance Center (formerly Mulberry St. Theater), Dixon Place, The Flea Theater, Merce Cunningham Studios, Dancenow/nyc, and The Hatch. Her work has also been presented in Montreal at Usine C, Piscine Theatre (UQAM), and the Place-des-Arts. In the summer of 2008, Dorian was offered space to research and rehearse as a “special student” at the Concord Summer Stages festival. She is an upcoming recipient of the madAIR space grant at Stella Adler Studio where she will spend six weeks collaborating with actress Regina Gibson to create a new evening of choreography.

Teaching

Dorian has participated in teaching residencies at Towson University and Concord Summer Stages (both as a member of Misnomer Dance Theater). She has also assisted Helene Blackburn in a five day creation workshop at the Northwest Professional Dance Project. On her own, Dorian has taught modern technique, improvisation, partnering and composition to students at Studio Arts for Dancers in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Performance

As a member of Chris Elam’s Misnomer Dance Theater for three seasons, Dorian has appeared in New York at Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, PS 122, and DTW, and on tour across the states and abroad. Additionally, she has appeared in works by Jose Navas, Larry Keigwin, Alison Clancy, and the Catskill Collaborative.

Video

Currently, Dorian works as a freelance videographer, editor and online media consultant. She has worked with many choreographers, companies, and organizations including: dancenow/nyc, Misnomer Dance Theater, Jenny Rocha, Gallim Dance, POW! Arts, and Alison Clancy.Dorian also worked as an assistant editor on the experimental independent film, “Four Eyed Monsters”, which was nominated for two 2006 Spirit Awards and won the Indiewire “Hidden Gems” Showcase.She has overseen the creation of projections for live dance performances by POW! Arts and Alethea Adsitt and Company. These collaborations have been presented at the Connelly Theater (NYC), Galapagos (NYC), Cool NYC Festival at White Wave, and the Goose Route Dance Festival (WV).
